Join us this Friday 24th June 2022 for “An evening with Mr Haydn”

7.30 pm – Entry by donation

Glasgow Orchestral Society, founded in 1870, is a full symphony orchestra with about 70 members.  On this occasion, however, a smaller group will perform two symphonies by Joseph Haydn who is called the “father of the symphony”.  These will be Symphony No 1 in D major and Symphony No 45 in F sharp minor, the “Farewell”.  Between the two symphonies, members of the orchestra will be joined by Alan Kitchen and Heloise Bernard in a group of Scottish songs arranged by Haydn for voice, keyboard, violin and cello, using a recent edition published by Glasgow based Professor Marjorie Rycroft.

This will be a very enjoyable programme for a midsummer evening.

Conductor – Allan McPhee

Soprano – Héloïse Bernard

Program:

Symphony no 1  in D major

Scottish song arrangements

  1. The Lea Rig
  2. A Rosebud by my Early Walk (The Shepherd’s Wife)
  3. Bonny Wee Thing
  4. The Birks o’ Aberfeldy (Abergeldie)

Symphony no 45 in F# minor   “The Farewell”

This concert is part of the 2022 Wellington Arts Festival.
