by Claire McDiarmid and Alan Kitchen on behalf of Wellington Church
Many thanks to Connor Smith for all he has brought to Wellington in his five years as choral scholar. His contribution to our shared life and worship has been outstanding. He was the first scholar to be appointed in what was a new venture for Wellington – the Philip Beattie Memorial Scholarship. Philip was a faithful tenor in the choir for many years.
The way in which Connor has carried out the role has benefited everyone. In addition to his fine work in the choir, Connor initiated the monthly concert series and helped forge a happy and productive link with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and many of its students. After graduating, he sang with Scottish Opera, yet was still happy to continue as a scholar at Wellington. Connor’s friendly manner endeared him to members of the choir, the congregation, and was certainly appreciated very much by the Director of Music.
He will be missed by Wellington, and we all wish him well as he moves to London to study for his Masters course at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music.
