19.03.2020 Moderator joins call for national day of prayer

Rt Rev Colin Sinclair is joining the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, and other church leaders to issue a national call to prayer. The call to prayer asks everyone to light a candle at 7pm on Sunday as ‘a visible symbol of the light of life, Jesus Christ, our source and hope in prayer.’

19.03.2020 Planning for online worship developing

17.03.2020 Church of Scotland requests all congregations to suspend any worship gatherings including Sunday morning worship 


17.03.2020 Life and Work Staff working remotely

17.03.2020 Church of Scotland General Assembly Cancelled

Due to the Coronavirus epidemic the Church of Scotland has decided to cancel this year’s General Assembly which was due to open on 16th May 2020. For more info go to:

17.03.2020 Hall Let Cancellations (update)

Nite Piano and Glasgow School of Guitar are continuing but ask all their students to wash their hands before and after they attend class. 

Capoeira still meets as scheduled.

All other groups have suspended their activities. 

17.03.2020 Working Group for providing online Sunday Worship formed

Under the lead of our Interim Moderator the Rev Stewart Gillan and our Assisting Minister the Rev Roger Sturrock a group has been formed to explore ways of moving worship online if meeting in person should no longer be permitted. We expect a decision on how to proceed this Sunday coming by Thursday.

16.03.2020 Presbytery of Glasgow – Staff work from home

On Tuesday 18th March 2020 Glasgow Prebytery staff are trialling a ‘work from home day’ to ensure that our Business Continuity Plan is effective.

Staff will have access to email. Please call the presbytery office telephone (0141 332 6606) to access a mobile number to speak to a member of staff.

16.03.2020 – Saturday Lunch Time Concert 28th March – cancelled

The concert planned for 28th March has been cancelled for the safeguarding of the audience as well as the performers. It will be rescheduled for later in the year.

16.03.2020 – Hall Lets continue (for now)

As of now, hall lets are going ahead as scheduled unless lettees decide to cancel their activities.

So far, the following groups have suspended their meeting:

  • Tango
  • Handcraft Circle
  • Glasgow Drum Cricle
  • Disabled Scouts

15.03.2020 – Wellington activities cancelled

Wellington Church has taken the hard decision to cancel all evening services during March. Additionally, we have decided to cancel on-going social and educational activities as well as to close the Crypt Cafe with immediate effect.

This means the following activities are suspended until further notice:

  • Sunday Evening Services
  • Crypt Cafe
  • English Language Conversation Corner (Wednesdays)
  • Lent Bible Study (Wednesdays)
  • Questions of Faith
  • International Welcome Club (Fridays)
  • Bible Story Time (Saturdays)

11.03.2020 – Church of Scotland advice implemented

The Church of Scotland has published advice on worship during the COVID-19 crisis which can be found here:

Wellington Church follows all advice closely.

Public Health Scotland and the UK Government recommend that you should take usual infection prevention precautions including:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
  • Churches can underline the importance of handwashing by ensuring that hand sanitisers are not available in toilets where soap and water can be used
  • It is particularly important after taking public transport to use sanitiser on your hands
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Carry tissues to catch coughs and sneezes and bin the tissue
  • If you feel unwell, stay at home, do not attend work or school
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in church buildings
